Community Transformation
Located in
a small valley, this rural village is about 25km from the town of Siaya in Western Kenya, The
community of about 1000 families is composed of one tribal group who have lived
through the years on the means of subsistence farming. The community has
suffered greatly due to lack of long-term food security, poor drinking water
and the AIDS epidemic. Our goal is to provide numerous opportunities for community
transformation by working alongside the people over the next 5 to 10 years.
Market Gardens
CIDA grant funds will be used to train local leaders in bio-intensive
organic farming with five one-week agronomy programs. Each leader's
family will also learn the required skills to maximize their home 1/8
plot of land.
Primary School Construction
CIDA grant funds will be used to build a new classroom.
