Egypt, Cairo
Urban Transformation
Located on the north-eastern end of the capital city of Cairo, this school is surrounded by a large slum known as Arba’a wa Nuss. A school for refugee children was started in 2000 and now serves 450 children from grades 1 to 7. Millions of refugees fled from Southern Sudan to Egypt to escape the long civil war; most are destitute with little hope of leaving.
