Uganda, Mukono
Community Transformation
Located just north of Lake Victoria, this town of 50,000 is
at the heart of the wealthy district of Mukono. With a close proximity to the
country’s capital and the international airport, Mukono town is used as a
center for business and essential goods and services. Along with wholesale and
retail businesses, agriculture is the other major economic activity, which includes
the production of coffee, tea, vanilla, sugar and bananas. The population of the
town of Mukono is typical of Africa, with just under half of its people below
the age of 18. There are over 1 million children in Uganda who have been
orphaned by AIDS; our goal is to provide numerous opportunities for community
transformation by working alongside Noah’s Ark Children’s Ministry.

Primary and Nursery Education
The school is called New Horizon
and its motto is ‘From nobody to somebody' because most of the children
are nobodies in the eyes of Ugandan society. The school aims to make
them somebodies by giving them an education, good morals and
self-confidence so that they can stand on their own feet and have a
brighter future when they finish school. About 300 children are enrolled
at the school and are sponsored by individuals. The money is used to
pay for their school fees, uniforms, healthcare and meals. However many
of the village children who attend New Horizon School are not yet
sponsored. To learn more or to help out, please visit newhorizonschoolsponsorship.ca.
1st Phase Construction – Vocational Secondary School
Springbank Community Church has partnered
alongside Hungry For Life in order to construct a vocational secondary school
with Noah's Ark Children's Ministry. The school will be visionary in Uganda, where all of the learning is purely theoretical rather than practical. The school will transform the community as it equips a generation with the skills necessary to survive and support a family.

Family Unit Homes
Noah's Ark Children's Home believes that family is an important stape in a heathly upbringin for children. They plan on housing orphaned and abandoned children in Family Unit Homes, with 10 kids sharing one house mom in an effort to bring about a sense of stability and community for these kids.

Dairy Farm
Noah's Ark Children's Home has begun a small but
sustainable dairy operation consisting of three cows. Previously they were buying 20-25 liters
of milk a day for the orphanage, but now milk produced from the cows is used,
saving over $12 a day. The plan is to add more cows to the farm to provide
longevity to the yearly production.
