Ranjan Fernando
Sri Lanka
In 1985 Ranjan founded United Christian Fellowship (UCF), with the vision of bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Sri Lanka. Begun with only a few believers in the Paraththa village, UCF now ministers in more than a dozen locations throughout the small island-nation. With 60 staff members and volunteers, UCF is committed to reach the unreached and building Christian leadership in rural areas. The government of Sri Lanka has also appointed Pastor Ranjan as a Justice of the Peace for the entire country, in recognition of his service.
UCF’s ministry focuses on evangelism, education and social outreach. Through church planting, Bible correspondence courses, Sunday school classes and prayer meetings, they are witnessing many people coming to faith in Jesus Christ, from both Buddhist and Hindu backgrounds. They also operate several nursery school programs, Children's Centers and Children's Homes in rural areas where no child-care or early education is available, and provide free school materials to needy children and scholarships for students attending Bible training programs. They also provide financial assistance to those in need. Such assistance includes: traveling medical clinics; first aid supplies; housing assistance; sewing centers for the unemployed; vocational training; emergency relief for floods, droughts, etc.; and clothing drives for refugees.
