Big day at the medical clinic
This morning was an exciting day at the clinic with our team seeing three acutely sick patients! To start, Jaclyn and MJ saw an 18 year old girl with Typhoid. As a result, Jody got her first successful IV start!! The patient was here all morning for treatment and improved drastically by lunchtime and was discharged.
We also had a rare case of pediatric heart failure on a 9 year old boy and it seems this boy will require heart surgery in the near future. We are looking at ways to make this happen for him as we have done in the past for Nadia.
Another interesting story is an 11 month old baby girl born without a rectum who is in the process of undergoing a series of three surgeries to correct this. Prior to seeing us today, she had her ostomy site covered with only a diaper. Our team was able to supply the family with colostomy products and teaching until her final surgery can be completed in six months.

Joan is being "the mom" making people eat their de-worming pills when they come through the door and giving them heck when she finds the pills half eaten under the chairs.
Jody had the opportunity to go with a patient on an "excursion" They took her to an eye clinic in Petit Goave to see if there was any thing they could do to repair her eye. This patient was seen initially during the November trip and returned for a follow up with Dr. Cutler. Our team learned about local eye clinic from a previous team member, Amber, who found the eye clinic on the Internet while back in Canada.

After clinic is over the team relaxes reading books and talking about the day. Jaclyn and Mallory were in their glory when they found a recent People magazine and were given an opportunity to check their e-mail.

Thanks for all your prayers and comments, they are felt and encouraging us. We have hit the half way point today and it already seems as though it is going by too fast.

Mally & Esso,
Just wanted to let you know that I am sooo proud of you and so very jealous! I wish I was there with you! I've got the whole school praying for your continued safety and health, so you should be good for the rest of your trip! Oh ya, Mason, just to let you know Pittsburgh won their series in 4 straight and Detroit leads theirs 3-1 (not like any of that is a surprise...). Anyway keep up the awesome work and I'll see you in a week!
Lots of love, hugs and kisses,
Marisa
PS- Tell Bob that Clark and I say Hi!
Once again it is such a treat to hear about all that is happening and see your pictures. It definitely makes me long to be there with you guys. So exciting to see how some of the people that we saw in December, are doing and what the plans are for them! I am convinced that it is these kind of long term relationships that will make all the difference in the overall health of the community. Thanks for writing. Thinking of you all and praying for you. Hugs, Amber
