Our day of Rest

Sunday, May 24th This morning, the group walked down to the outdoor chapel which is about 300 yards from our residence/clinic. Prayer started at 8:15 AM (we missed that!). Church started at 9:00 AM with worship, Bible Reading, and then the message. Marc spoke, while Lisa interpreted. When Marc got wound up and excited he spoke very quickly; I wasn't sure how Lisa was going to keep up with interpreting but she did awesome!

The Haitians sure can sing beautifully! There were about 450 people in attendance with two hundred children going to Sunday School. I had a little Haitian girl sit beside me. After I put my arm around her, she also wanted to hold my hand, then She started licking my hand -- I think she was wondering if white people taste the same as black people. I am positive they do! It was great sitting outside on the benches. You could literally feel the wind of the Holy Spirit blowing through the crowd. What an awesome spirit these people have. Their instruments included drum set, keyboard, bass guitarm electric guitar, sax, and trombone. There was even a guy there with a homemade instrument!
We had an awesome lunch with freshly caught crab. This afternoon we walked to the beach (about 30 minutes). The water was so warm, actually warmer than our daily shower! Not sure if anyone has said it yet but we just have cold water here which is very refreshing!
This evening offered some excitement in the girls room (Jaclyn, Jody, Mallory, Laura & Joan). First, we had a few hundred ants that had to be taken care of which followed Laura into the shower then after supper, an enormous (in my mind) spider was above one of the bunkbeds. Luke (our hero), came and killed it but it moved 3 times before he finally got it! That about wraps up our day today. Some are playing cards now, some are reading and the rest are just enjoying some down time.
Keep praying for all of us -- we can feel it! Thank you so much!
I sure didn't know what to expect when we first arrived in Haiti. Yes, it is a very poor country but the people around here are genuinely so nice! They are really beautiful people with big smiles and so polite. I am really shocked at how they are dressed. I thought they would be in rags or children even naked since some of them live in shacks. I was told they probably have 2 outfits, one for home and one for church/outings. At church today and at the clinics, they come in clean and dressed sometimes nicer than us. All the women and girls have their hair done in braids -- the little girls especially are so cute with all their little braids. Apparently, a boy's hair is braided as well until he starts to talk and then it is cut for the first time. Laura and I are having a good time together.
Laura is in charge of taking the blood pressure of people when they walk in. She sits with 2 Haitians -- one interpreter and one nurse. There is a lot of laughter in that corner of the room and Marc is convinced that they are having too much fun. She is probably doing the best in understanding the Haitians with her French knowledge. What an awesome experience Joan! Good to know we all taste the same --- I've always wondered! We will continue to pray for strength and health and eternal impact for you and the team. And for less bugs! LUL.

It's not suprising that there is laughter when Laura is around.

It sounds like the Team is being ministered to as it ministering to the Haitians, and its been a positive experience.

Thank you guys for writing. I check the blog daily and I look forward to hearing more and seeing more pictures. It's so good to hear and see that some of the Haitian nurses are back to help with the clinics too! --Amber

I'm so glad you are keeping us posted about what you are doing. We are continually praying for the team- health, safety, guidance, and bugs! It's a good thing Mason didn't have to be the spider exterminator. Love and Blessings Darcy, Mel,Marisa and Elizabeth
