Random Happenings Today
Another hot day on the Haitian front, 7am sure does come early! The clinic was busier than the previous day as our team treated about 85 patients before lunch, and then seemed to slow down, facing only 25 patients after lunch. Many patients seem to have itchy eyes and pain throughout their bodies. Dr. Mary Jane saw the team’s first mini operation, removing a mass of scar tissue from the ear of a Haitian teenage girl with Jody by her side to help with the procedure.

Laura managed to mistake “Off” insect repellant with “Raid” insect killer, spraying it all over her body resulting in some panicked washing amidst crazy amounts of giggling. She also helped to hand out sunglasses; Mallory was starting to transform into a real pharmacist; Mason was again busy in the pharmacy with Mallory, and also spent some time outside entertaining the kids; Joan was again busy de-worming every patient and holding babies.
After the clinic we ventured outside the compound, taking a fifteen minute walk to the ocean. It was sure warmer than the water the team uses to shower! Being careful not to step on any sea urchins, everyone dipped their feet in the water, and took a moment to enjoy and take pictures of the beautiful scenery.
Overall it was another successful day at the clinic, with
church on Sunday and free time on Monday, the team will get to refresh and rest for another day of hard work on Tuesday
. Stayed tuned for more blogging!
Mason- I don’t think I have ever spoken so much French in my life! I guess all those hours of verb conjugation in high school paid off. My sister and I feel like a couple of sardines working in the small pharmacy. Today I got to witness the mini operation performed by Dr. Mary Jane, which was very interesting. Everyone is so friendly here. I look forward to swimming in the ocean tomorrow, and going to the market on Saturday hopefully. I am lucky to be with such gifted people.
