Rehabilitation Home
We had a productive day today, visiting a rehabilitation centre for men struggling with addiction problems. We piled into two vans and drove out of Nikopol and into the countryside to get to the centre, passing large tracts of farmland. .
We came to the centre to help the men and show them God's love. We women got right to work inside the small adobe home, replacing the sheets, the blankets, pillows in all eight of the beds, and doing dishes and floors.
Before going to the centre today we picked out clothing and linens out of the boxes we shipped a few months ago to bring along to the men. We gave each one of them two pairs of socks, bath towels, a face cloth and a selection of clothing. They don't have much there, and the assistance was definitely appreciated. When we were doing all this work we felt happy that we could do a little something for them but also sad for the things that we saw: lumpy lumpy mattresses, pillows were very dirty and so were the sheets. We even had an opportunity to discover few mice residents. Some of us had a bit of a hard time with it, the farm girls mainly :)

While we women worked inside, the men tackled the mounds of junk piled around the yard. Found between the wandering geese and the penned chickens, there were loads of bricks, half broken roofing tiles, rusted metal and odds and sods of no use or value. By the end of the day, the yard was looking much better, with garbage moved to piles, bricks stacked and general order restored to this property. we all enjoyed the huge bonfire."we almost felt helplessness and overwhelming with the amount of work that needs to be done here. We did enjoy very much to have three of the residence working with us. They worked hard along side us.
The lunch (we brought it with us) was an experience in itself. The noises of geese and chicks, dogs and calf's were making our lunch time quiet special. Mary kept shouting "shut up" and now she has no voice left :)
A man named Nikoli runs the centre, and we got to hear his testimony as we ate lunch together. He was once a mean, angry man who had no need for God. Then his son became a drug addict and it distressed Nikoli so much he got severely high blood pressure. Doctors say he should have died. But Nikoli told God if there was a purpose for him to be on the Earth to keep him around, and Nikoli got better. He started this centre only eight months ago, to help men addicted to drugs and alcohol to be free of their addictions and find Christ. Now his son is drug-free and Nikoli helps other men. Out of that centre four or five men have already become Christians and been baptized. Praise God!
anyway. we love you all and thank you for the prayers and comments.

God be with you all back home

I have been following you on the blog, I am going with you to each location, wishing I was there, my prayers are with you. When you were at the home for men, my heart went out to you, I'm the sure it took a lot of hard work to do the clean up. Sorry to hear that John is sick, I'm praying that the Lord keeps John and Nadia well as they are our life line in the Ukraine. Mary I am also praying for your voice, go and see that Lady Doctor and gargle with salt water. Well Team, like the rest of us, you will never come back and same...these people work their way right into your heart. I was so thrilled to see that new vehicle, it gave the old one a chance to die....Again, God's richest blessing be on you all and keep you in health and strength. What a privilege to stand in the gap for souls....
I was so into the blog, I forgot to let you know who sent it, but Mary I think you could have figured that one out. Edna Tiegen did the comment dated Oct. 2/09 8:14 p.m.
