Where we’re working:
Boeng Krum, Cambodia
Boeng Krum commune is located in Lvea Em district in the province of Kandal. It is 41 km east of Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. The population of Boeng Krum is 5,108 with 1,098 families. The primary occupation is farming. Like most rural areas in Cambodia, a high percentage (68% in Boeng Krum) of the children do not attend school beyond the age of eight because they are needed for farm work or to take care of younger siblings. Since the quality of education is so poor, even those who complete grade 12 lack the skills to pursue viable employment opportunities.
Asian Outreach Cambodia (AOC) has been working with the community members to develop a sense of personal and community responsibility so that they will take action in seeing their community holistically transformed. Through building strong ties, the relationships AOC forms help to determine the needs of the community so that they can work at improving life for the next generations to come.
