September 2020 Project Update:
Relief for families in need
San Raymundo, Guatemala:
The government of Guatemala has chosen to categorize communities by their vulnerability to Covid outbreak. San Raymundo has now been classified as code red; very vulnerable to a large outbreak. Estimates from local doctors are that there are about 200 active cases in the community at the present time, although little testing is being done to confirm numbers.
Pastor Victor is limited in his ability to visit his families, they need to call and state that there is an emergency before he is allowed to go to their home. In the meantime the church is broadcasting two services a week to keep the community encouraged. Also, teachers are distributing home learning packets to keep students engaged and learning.
San Raymundo is on a partial curfew and the social distancing conditions are limiting many forms of income, pushing more families into the grip of the hunger virus. The community is so thankful for the assistance they have received from supporters and other donors over the past months, Pastor Victor says:
"On behalf of Iglesia Jesús Viene, and of our community we thank God for this blessing, Cochrane Alliance Church and Hungry For Life for their help in this emergency. We always pray for our brothers and friends in Canada, that God bless and protect them in the midst of this pandemic."
