Where we’re working:
Zapote, Guatemala
Zapote is a community with approximately 3,500 residents, located 45 minutes from Guatemala City. The population consists of many orphans and widows and a 75% unemployment rate, making it the poorest area in Guatemala. Thee education system in this community is exremely poor; therefore, the Iglesia Galilea Church in San Lucas opened a school for kindergarten up to grade 6 students called Source of Hope School. The pupils not only receive quality education but they are fed one well-balanced meal each school day and medical care when needed. Due to limited space, the Iglesia Galilea Church plans to expand the school by adding a second floor to accommodate grades 7 to 9, a computer lab, office, and dorms for teams.
Due to the high number of widows and orphans, better homes are needed for this population; therefore, teams have been building more liveable secure houses and outdoor efficient stoves for cooking.
