Kenscoff, Haiti
Kenscoff is a town in the Ouest Department of Haiti, located in the mountains about 10 kilometres to the southeast of Port-au-Prince. It has a population of approximately 4,000 people but number of people in the smaller communities surrounding it bring the total population of the area closer to 10,000. Kenscoff sits at an altitude of over 5000 feet and is considerably colder and wetter than the rest of Haiti. The area has some historical significance. Fort Jacques and Fort Alexander were constructed in Kenscoff in 1804 under Jean-Jacques Dessalines as part of the defenses against French forces and the are still standing to this day.
