July 2020 Project Update:
Solar Power
Ensenada, Mexico:
We initially wanted to get solar, but the quotes we were getting were way too high so we went the other route of looking at a transformer, which would have been less for all the permits and installation, with a savings of 25-30% off the initial bill.
"Literally one day before we were supposed to sign the contract to get the transformer in and put money down for a deposit, we ran in to another company that was willing to help us out as a children's home, and gave us a significant discount to go to solar power, back to our initial plan."
Because we're a children's home, they were willing to discount some of their profit off the panels and they are doing much of the labor at no charge to us.
The price they gave us was significantly less than the transformer which included 26 panels with 425 KW per panel, the invertors, disconnecting 4 meters and running them to one breaker box with 220 power from the city. This one box will feed the entire base. The meter will run backwards and we can draw off of it when it's cloudy or at night time. Going to solar will bring our bill down 85-90%, which will be amazing!
