Community Project: In progress
COVID Relief
, Peru
ATEK works in many villages and is having difficulty in continuing with their programs. They have tried to use cellphones, but many communities do not have strong internet. Because of COVID-19 there are people in the cities that are unable to support themselves with rental costs and food. They have started to head back to their villages. Government is providing transportation back into the villages, but people are required to be quarantined for 15 days so many people are actually going by foot over many days to get back. As of today (May 2020), the Quachuan villages have remained for the most part unharmed from the virus but the return of those from the city is going to have the potential of a devastating affect as many of the communities lack any medical resources to deal with an outbreak.
People living in villages are currently doing well with the food they are producing but when all of those returning from cities will arrive back, there will be a shortage of food. ATEK anticipates this to be happening within the next few weeks. ATEK will be delivering food and bibles in the rural communities as resources enable them to do so.
$70 provides food for a family of 5 for 1 month.
$11 provides 1 person with a bible.
