December 2020 Project Update:
Providing warmth
Middle East, Restricted Access:
Winter has now set into the regions, with overnight lows dipping below freezing.
Each year, for those who have been displaced by conflict, winter provides expanded challenges.
When a family arrives in an informal settlement (these include unfinished & abandoned buildings as well as tents), they often arrive with little more than the clothes on their back. Life associated with temporary shelter living is difficult; the single rooms provide little privacy for families, scorching heat permeates and breaks down tarps during the summer months and there is little to no relief from cold winter conditions.
For some of these families, this is the 10th consectuive year of displacement.
The UNHCR has assessed 3.8 million vulnerable people to be in need of winterization assistance in the region alone this year.
With such staggering numbers it can be hard to find hope.
Yet in the midst of all of this, Hillside Community Church in partnership with a local regional pastor have stepped in to provided some much needed assistance in Christ's name.
With the funds provided from Hillside, the local pastor was able to purchase two fuel trucks loaded with kerosene. Kerosene is used to burn in small space heaters and thanks to this shipment, 28,400 Litres were provided to two communities.
In total, 142 families recieved roughly 200 Litres each, enough to keep warm until temperatures begin to climb again in March.
We are grateful for the ongoing partnership of the Body of Christ around the globe.
