December 2020 Project Update:
COVID < economic pressures
Middle East, Restricted Access:
COVID-19's impact goes far beyond the health of effects to those whom have contracted the virus.
When the pandemic first began, those working with the more than 80 million displaced peoples feared the spread amoung communities whom could not effectively socially distance and lacked adequate sanitation stations. However, God's hand of protection has been over these vulenerable communities, with infection numbers far lower than anticipated or even imagined.
The deepest, and disproportional, impacts to these vulenerable people have been economically. In the region, more than 85% of families have reported at least one member being unable to work due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place. And of those low wage workers, the number is higher, at 93% facing lossing of employment.
As a result, food security becomes a greater challenge. More than 50% of families have reported reducing meals and increasing debt loads.
In the midst of this, the local church have continued to provide food hampers to the most vulenerable families in the community.
This month, with the funds provided by Hillside, 150 families recieved food asistance.
