School Feeding Program
, Tanzania
The main contributing factor of poor performance of the children was the feeding program being discontinued for the last 5 months of the school year. This resulted in children struggling to retain what they were learning and many others to remain at home. The feeding program was funded by the families who have children attending the school but were unable to contribute to the entire school year. The parents were able to provide 50% of the total required funds ($2,200) to cover the cost of food in 2013 and the school feeding program will make up the difference. The fund assists in paying for a cook and food consisting of makande, which is a mix of corn a beans, and porridge.
