January 2020 Project Update:
Widow Extended Care Program....They keep on giving!
Nikopol, Ukraine:
It has been very encouraging to go back to Ukraine and visit with ministries that have started in the past few years. One of these ministries that continues to grow is Widow Extended Care. There are so many people that were able to pass away in the comfort of their home or in hospital with someone by their side and Jesus in their hearts’. I am continually amazed how much these ladies give of themselves and their commitment and love of the Lord, it challenges me to do more here to equip people in Ukraine to be able to do what they are so good at doing there.
Here is a letter from one of the ladies we are blessed to partner with:
May peace be with you and your families.
My name is Luda, I’m 65 years old and I am part of a team of ladies that provide home care to widows that are in need. I want to thank you very much for your support.
One of the widows that we visit is Tamara, she is 85 years old and very ill. With your support through the Hydro and Gas fund we were able to provide heat in her home for the winter season. Her pension is 1500 hryvnia/month and to heat her home would be approximately 1400 hryvnia/month, leaving not much to survive on. Thanks to the Widow Extended Care fund we can also help her with her medical expenses, and provide her some food.
Nearby my house there is another sister, Julia Makarova, she is 82 years old, blind and has been bedridden for the last 4 years. She broke her hip, and we visit her often. With your financial help we are able to pay her gas bill, approximately 2000 hryvnia, and also able to assist her by paying for her medication. Since she is blind we come and read the bible for her, and every month the pastor comes and serves her the Lord’s Supper. She also listens to Christian radio.
We also have a young man of 52 yrs. who was born with a physical disability. He requires full time care, so we created a schedule where we all take shifts to take care of him. Men from our church come to shave and bathe him and sisters in our church bring food and feed him every day. We thank God that we are able to help each other.
On Saturdays I bake piroshki for two young foster families here in town, just to make life a little easier for the parents. They have 22 children between them.
I am so grateful for the fridge I received from you recently, now I can do even more. Thank you so much for your help, we feel it. I don’t know how we would be able to run the Widow Extended Care Program without your support.
We also know you are praying for us and we are very grateful for that.
May God be with you, and bless you with strength, patience and health.
Sincerely,
Skakunova L.V.
Blessings to you in this New Year of 2020 and may we all look for ways to be used by God right where we are.
