March 16th update | Hungry For Life

March 16th update

Monday, March 16th, 2020

We want to provide an update to our supporters, partners, field-partners and wider community about how the current global response to COVID-19 is affecting our work.

Given the fact we have staff who frequently travel, I want to start by letting you know that no one from the Hungry For Life community is exhibiting any symptoms, other than the all-too-familiar jet lag.

As you can imagine, the current global response to COVID-19 affects how we are able to do our work. We have cancelled all scheduled international short-term teams until the end of June and we have suspended all future teams planning for the time being. Staff travel has also been suspended and will be so until the situation allows it.

Because we have staff members who have recently traveled internationally, and to contribute to the social distancing necessary to help reduce the transmission, we have asked our staff to work from home, effective immediately. We have also asked our staff to use video conferencing for as many meetings as possible.

Thank you for continuing to support Hungry For Life. During this time of reduced international activity, our team will still be working on lots of projects, future planning, communication and a host of things that are sometimes hard to get to in the busyness of our work. The office will be closed to the public effective tomorrow, March 17, and will re-open when it seems wise to do so. We will continue to work remotely and will be responding to all email and phone communication.

Hungry For Life exists to care for those who are vulnerable around the world. This is something we can do to care for those who are vulnerable at home. All over the world, we see people who have an intimacy with Jesus because of dependence. While we are all looking forward to the end of this, I am also looking forward to what this situation produces. I’m looking forward to stories of the Church being like Jesus in this time. I’m looking forward to stories of care for one another at home, like we care for one another around the world.
