March 26th update

Thursday, March 26th, 2020

Our HFL team has spent the past week making adjustments in light of our new global reality. Staff meetings have resumed online and our team is primarily working from home. While this has been easier for some than others, we are fully committed to following the direction of our health authorities. The vast majority of HFL’s work is, in so many ways, remote. As such, our work continues. Since our last update a week ago, here is where we are currently at with key activities and effects of COVID-19:

  • The Voice of Hope team that was in Kenya are home.
  • Mary Martz, HFL’s project manager in Ukraine, managed to get a flight out of Ukraine and arrived home last night.
  • All teams and international travel continue to be suspended. This has meant the cancellation of five short-term teams so far.
  • We are connecting with all of our field partners to assess how they are each affected by their country’s response to COVID-19. While the concern for all nations is high, the concerns for how COIVD-19 could affect nations without a fully developed health care system, without the ability to physically distance appropriately, and without the ability prepare materially is even more worrying. Where we have the ability to help, we will.
  • We are also doing some contingency planning, for the organization as a whole, if this situation extends into months and not weeks.

As with most, we are also praying, asking God to intervene in so many ways. We also want to pray for you and any of the ways this affects you. We’ve asked you for prayer so many times, and we also want to pray for you. Please reach out to anyone you know at HFL, or contact us online, with anything we can pray for. We will include it in our staff prayer in our “virtual” chapel each Tuesday morning.

Thank you again for partnering with us. Our vision of a world transformed, evidenced by the eradication of needless suffering, is highly attuned to the global context right now.
