Asian Outreach Cambodia Pastors' Vision Trip - October 2014 | Hungry For Life
Team:

October 2014: ,

HFL's field partner, Asian Outreach Cambodia (AOC), works in Kandal and Prey Veng provinces, to empower and train local Christians to deliver its development projects: Assisting Children to School (ACTS), HIV/AIDS-TB, Church Development, Women’s Empowerment and Water and Sanitation.

Our trip provided an opportunity to get to know our partners better, and included an overview of the active ministries. It was also an opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of this beautiful and complex place. While staying in Pnomh Penh, we visited the Kandal outreach projects as well as the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) and killing fields. From up in Siem Reap, we saw the Stung Treng project as well as the 7th wonder of the world, Angkor Wat.

Team Testimonials:

“[The experiences of this trip have changed me and I] will pray for Cambodia and listen to the leading of God.”
“My goal is to approach other business leaders to consider supporting the work of AOC in Cambodia.”
“It was great to see the humility of Cambodian people. I have learned so much about Cambodian history.”
“[One highlight I experienced was] the AOC model farm. The reality that there is a system being established for long-term sustainable community transformation was very encouraging. This project is about empowerment over enabling and it filled me with hope for Cambodia.”
“[The event that broke my heart was] seeing the genocide museum and killing fields. It was overwhelming in a good way. It brought context to the work being done.”
“[One thing I will do differently is] focus less of my energy on myself and find a way to help this place effectively.”
“[In the next six months] ministry [will be] focused on multiplication in training and education — for local missions.”

Josiah and Bill get a "Pedicure"

After a long day in the sun and an uplifting debrief session, we headed out into Siem Reap for dinner.  Following our meal, some of us stopped to dip our feet in the tank of tilapia to have them munch at our callouses - it was quite an experience!

A Cambodian Wonder

At the end of a very busy week here in Cambodia, it was nice to cap it off with a bit of a "leisure" day at one of the seven wonders of the world: Angkor Wat.  This temple was built about 900 years ago; it was built by a Hindu ruler but has since been reclaimed by Buddhist worshipers.  Actually,

Agricultural Experiments

Five hectares have already been cleared, and this really cool couple from New Zealand who live there with their kids have headed up this project and brought in power, a water system, and started building aspects of a model farm.  They’ve also constructed an awesome workshop building that is reall

A Cambodian Crossroads

The city of Stung Treng is in the province of Stung Treng.  In fact, it is the capital city.  Not the kind of capital city with big, impressive buildings, though.  Actually, it doesn't so much feel like a city as like a frontier town in the wild west.  And, in a sense, that's what it is.
