Today was Sunday, a day of rest, but for us it was another busy day. We went to the church the girls from the home go to, a very energetic, young church. For some of us, it felt ‘right at home’ but for some it was a surprising style of worship. This church, in contrast with the small, humble, one room church we held the kids’ breakfast program in yesterday, was a stark contrast.
After church we took the girls to a park in town and had lunch. While we were playing in the playground and eating our lunches, a few homeless men gathered around asking about the food. So, as we shared our lunches with them, God gave us the opportunity to talk to them and pray for them. Randy, the leader of the girls’ home, said afterwards that when God open opportunities for ministry whether they are in the form of praying for others or sharing your lunch, we should seize them. And in truth, just a few prayers and a few sandwiches made a huge impact today in the lives of a few men who needed support. One of the most amazing experiences during a mission trip is how moments of unexpected blessing spring up, and how those moments can change the course of a life. So those of you at home, please pray that for the time we have left here in Mexico, we would have our hearts and eyes open to these opportunities.
In the afternoon we went to the local market and played a scavenger hunt game where we split into groups and together with the girls bought for various fruits and vegetables that many of us had never even heard of. Chayote or platano macho anyone?
Please continue to pray for us, for the girls in this home and for the people from the community that we will be in contact with in the days to come.
