Blundell & Friends - March 2015 | Hungry For Life
Team:

March 2015: ,

A team of 6 youth from Chilliwack went to minister to a number of ministries in Kenya over spring break. Along with Dave & Heidi from HFL, they were able to dig gardens for widows, visit and encourage orphans, provide the basics of life to a poor family, create meaningful relationship with Nigel, and have their eyes opened to how God is working in a different part of the world.

Community projects:
Additional items accomplished:
  • 8 gardens dug (double digging!)
  • 100+ orphans encouraged through gifts, crafts, games, visiting
  • 1 family of 9 provided with the basic household items (chairs, kitchen supplies, bedding etc)
  • 1 family provided with income to start a small store
  • 1 family provide $ to finish off house and school fees for 8 kids
  • 50 orphans provided breakfast at school
  • 200 doses of anti-malaria meds provided to Boro Medical center

Team Testimonials:

“I think I will value school more because of all the situations that I’ve seen where families can’t put their kids in school.”
“This trip has brought a lot of harsh realities to light. While those are difficult to see, it is necessary to step into those situations in order to experience growth and transformation.”
“[This trip has changed me in that] I have been born again. I see God as mine instead of something I one day want. I look at and love others differently. It’s a joy not a chore.”
“Almost every aspect of me was changed or influenced. I now always think of how someone in Kenya would react to a situation I am in and reevaluate how I should react.”
“Seeing the bore hole being used broke and fixed my heart in the best way possible. God showed me that no matter who you are or how insignificant you might be, you can always change someone’s life.”
“This trip brought me closer to God because of all He showed me throughout the trip.”
“I have learned to pray always and often.”

The Little Things

Everybody wants to see progress. Change. Renovation. We want to see things happen - fast. But sometimes that doesn't happen right away. Alot of the time it's a slow, steady process and we have to be okay with doing little things that will eventually add up in the end.

So yesterday we were driving from kisumu to Kakamega and as we drove I saw an old lady sitting with a table at the end of her driveway. On her mat she had a few bunches of mini-bananas. That is all her income. She sits there all day, watching cars drive by.
