Calvin Christian Group - July 2019 | Hungry For Life
Team:

July 2019: ,

A team of 14 from Calvin Christian School Group, led by HFL leader Wilhelmina Krul, worked alongside our partner United Christians International in Pignon, Haiti. They were involved in various construction projects (e.g., building some homes), along with feeding programs and women hygiene teaching.

Team Testimonials:

"This trip brought me to the realization that many Haitians are actually richer than I am. They may be poor outwardly, but their faith is so apparent and their love for God shines out to others."
"Everything was a highlight, but what stood out the most was the amount of faith that the people show outwardly in comparison to us."
"Experiencing how real the poverty is has changed the way I view the world and charities. I never realized before how much of an impact a small amount of money can make. I feel like now I am more willing to give."
"I've realized that we must depend much more on God than on ourselves... our spiritual life should be much more vibrant."
"Nelson giving his life testimony was very powerful and it shows how much power Satan has. In Haiti it may result in voodoo/witch craft, but in my personal life, it may just be apathy in life without the active work of faith."
"Building a concrete house for a family broke my heart. The man was so weak but yet he wanted to help as much as he could. His wife had laid in the house for 3 years because there was nothing outside for her to lay on."
"I really respect the work of people like Jean Jean and Kristie (HFL field partners) because the work they do to make a difference in these people's lives is so visible."
"My prayers for those in need will definitely be much more sincere now that I know how great those needs really are."

Loud laughter and Haitian music greeted us at 8 this morning as we slept late for the first time on the trip. The sun beat down on our tender skin as we headed down for another amazing breakfast here in Haiti.

Tuesday, July 9

Last night we listened to the powerful story of Nelson, the former witch doctor. His past life is something he wants to share with others so he can tell them what God did for him. As a witch doctor he chose to sign a nine year contract. Once these nine years were up, he would die.
