At the end of April, a team of 10 from Free Reformed Church and community traveled to Guatemala to work alongside our partners in Membrillal and Zapote. Following a trip up to Cubulco to visit projects supported by the church, the team worked alongside local staff to build a house and stove in the community of Zapote, as well as assisted in the construction of an elementary school in Membrillal.

Headed home

Waking up at 3:45 this morning was bitter sweet. While we are thankful that God has spared us throughout this trip and that we can return to our loved ones, it is always tough to leave a mission project when the need is so great.

Day in Zapote

Today we got an earlier start than usual as we needed to make the hour and a half drive to Zapote for our project workday. By 7 am we had eaten breakfast and were on our way under a clear sunny sky. The drive to Zapote brought us through dense lush jungle and across four small rivers.

Arrival in San Lucas

Today was another beautiful day. We were out of bed at 6 AM so we had time to get ready for breakfast at 6:30. This morning we were invited to have breakfast at the local hospital in Cabulco called Centro Medico Cristiano “La Senorita Elena”.
