Grace Point Church of God - June 2015 | Hungry For Life

June 2015: ,

A team of 12 travelled to Mirebalais, Haiti alongside church pastor Craig Robertson. The team worked alongside our field partner FONSOPED on site at the Haiti Children's Home.

Community projects:
Additional items accomplished:
  • Moved furniture/boxes from the old orphanage to the new orphan home.
  • Cleaned 100 solar panels
  • Cleaned water tanks
  • Did 5 VBS programs with the kids

Team Testimonials:

“[This trip has] changed my whole view on life. I was nervous to come but now I don’t want to go home!”
“Going to the market was really impactful to me because it was so crazy to see people living in such poverty and trying to sell things for so little.”
“God spoke to me by reminding me that [the kids at the orphanage] are all His children, they are in His control and He has a plan for them and their lives.”
“[This trip] has helped me grow in my empathy and consideration towards others in tough or deadly situations.”
“Being at the church service in one of the poorest countries [it impacted me that] they can still be so thankful and in an abundant country like Canada, Sunday morning service is just another thing on the weekly checklist.”
“[This trip made me realize that] I can’t be frivolous with my money; I should feel the hurt of my giving.”
“[One highlight was] seeing the old orphanage and then the new orphanage and seeing the impact that the move had on the kids and volunteers.”
“It might seem obvious that helping others comes first, but materialism is quite hard to completely overcome.”

2nd to last day

Market day

VBS & soccer rules the day!

Yo, it’s yo boy Joshy B. After much debate at breakfast, we have concluded that it’s day 3 today. The mornings start off more or less the same day to day; I wake up, brush my teeth before the girls wake up, then read Psalms until it’s time for breakfast.
