Hinton Alliance Church - June 2015 | Hungry For Life
Team:

June 2015: ,

A team from Hinton Alliance Church, alongside HFL leader Kelvin Presakarchuk, worked alongside the local church and community. This was Hinton's fourth trip, enabling them to further build on their relationships within the community.

Additional items accomplished:
  • Helped build two houses for two families in Zapote.
  • Helped build two stoves — one for each family that received a house.
  • Helped work on the church building in Membrillal that is under construction, including laying concrete blocks and forming and pouring the 9 columns for a wall.
  • Helped build concrete steps into the baptismal tank for the new church in Membrillal.
  • Helped build computer desks in the schools at Zapote and Membrillal.
  • Worked on the playground at the church in San Lucas that was built on their last trip —painted the playground and installed a plastic cottage roof on it.
  • Left approximately 30 quilts for distribution to families in need.
  • Purchased 5 piñatas and candy and participated as the children had their piñata time.

Team Testimonials:

“I’ve been changed spiritually by talking one-on-one with people who strive to know God rather than just know of Him.”
“[This trip has] changed my appreciation for values and the way we judge true happiness.”
“[This trip has] shown me again that even though we have so much money, we have so little on the relationship, joyfulness, hope and gratefulness scale.”
“It broke my heart to find out that the school we’ve been working on has had to cut the school day short and cut a meal for the kids.”
“[This trip has helped me] see things from a fresh perspective and reaffirm that living for Christ is the same all over the world and that missions is primarily about relationship first—to God and then to others.”
“[This trip] has given me a new sense of being and how to handle situations.”
“My heart has been touched and my compassion strengthened by the people of Guatemala."

Pinata Friday in Membrillal

It was piñata day in Membrillal.  What a hoot to see kids swinging blindfolded at some very colorful piñatas.  A couple of nice Canadian ladies sent down the money for these treats. Thanks ladies. The kids absolutely loved it as did some of the teachers.

Enfermo

Our day took to a very indecisive start as we tried to sort out who was and wasn’t going to Zapote. Unfortunately 3 of us had to stay behind as they are sick. Sage, Alisa and Maggie stayed behind sleeping and resting their bodies in hopes of recovering.

A lazy Friday in San Lucas

Yesterday was a lazy day. I think the heat, long days, hard work, and jet lag finally caught up with everybody. The team stayed in San Lucas and did some work at the church playground.
