A team from Hinton Alliance Church, worked alongside the local church and community in Membrillal and Zapote. This was Hinton's fifth trip, enabling them to further build on their relationships within the community. The team built a house in Zapote for a widow and her young son, did construction work on the church in Membrillal, and participated in a class celebration service with the local school children.

Additional items accomplished: 
  • Built a house [for a 22-year-old widow and her young son] in Zapote.
  • Built and installed wooden forms for beam & columns of the East wall at the new church in Membrillal.
  • Poured 5 tons of concrete to make the columns and beam.
  • Replaced courtyard/soccer field rope net with wire chain link fence.

Ready to head home

Everyone is bed and ready for a 3:30 wake up call as we head to the airport by 4 for our 7 o'clock departure. If our flights are on time we will land in Edmonton at 6:48 after a three hour layover in Houston.

Concrete Thursday

There seems to be a pattern here. Scorching mornings in the sun and then the shade comes in the afternoon. We peaked at about 35 degrees C this morning and then it started to cool down as the shade and the dark ominous clouds arrived.

Hola from Guatemala, another hot day. I think we will finally be used to it by the time we board the plane for home Saturday morning. It was 37 degrees C today in Membrillal at high noon.

Vive el Zapote

Welcome to heat. Working in 40 degrees Celsius sure zaps your strength and stamina. The team had a great day but a sobering and humbling day. I am often humbled by the circumstances others are in. Today we had the privilege of building a home for a 22 year old widow.

Everybody is busy packing as five of us prepare to go to Guatemala to build a house and a stove in Zapote and work on the church and school in Membrillal. I have a great team this time.....okay I know I always say that but that's because it's always true.
