A team of 8 people led by Chad Martz and Ella Härkönen from Hungry For Life travelled to Ethiopia to begin working alongside our partners Kingdom Vision International. The team was engaged in various community development activities and got a first hand look at how their church could be strategically involved in transforming the community of Zamine Sebaye.

Last day

So our finally day in Ethiopia has come and gone and I am writing this in my kitchen. It amazes me how quickly you can get back to a “normal” life. I really do miss that country and have enjoyed telling everyone about what happened there.

Driving

We definitely enjoyed one of our last mornings in Ethiopia! We had an awesome breakfast at Tadesse Enjory Hotel (where we had spent the night). They made fresh omelets right in front of us, it was a great! Then we hopped over to another fancy hotel that is situated on the beautiful Hawassa Lake.

Field day

On Thursday we got the chance to go to the school and help lead a field day for all 650 kids in the school area! We started off very organized; we were in groups of two and each couple had a station that they ran.

Last day in Sodo

Every day is the best day yet. Today was very bittersweet as we drove up the dirt roads to the Zamine Sabaye School we have been working on and with all week for the last time.

Harvest

Today after breakfast we got to show our true farming skills by helping local farmers to harvest. Ethiopia has been a country waaaaay longer than Canada (or Finland) but especially walking at the farm made it seem like you traveled back in time.

Visiting homes

Today I think was the best day so far, we were able to hang out with the people of the community we are working in. It was a great privilege to be able to visit three of their homes. These people are so generous to invite us into their very modest homes.

Today started out pretty amazing with our dear Ella’s birthday. After a breakfast and a round of machiatos we piled into the vehicles and headed out to the school for some painting.
