Guatemala Medical Missions - January 2017 | Hungry For Life
Team:

January 2017: ,

A team of 19 traveled to Membrillal, Guatemala to provide medical and dental care for the community of Membrillal. This was a follow-up trip to the first trip that took place in July 2016.

Community projects:
Additional items accomplished:

The team saw 586 patients in 4 clinic days! The dental clinic is continuing to grow, and the church is beginning to support a local dentist because of this team's involement.

Team Testimonials:

“A little girl, after being afraid and hurting, immediately laughed after taking out her tooth. She had all of us and her mother rolling [with laughter]. Such a relief to share humor and joy in such tough circumstances.”
“This trip has reopened my eyes to the physical and spiritual needs of people around the world. It’s rekindled the fire to serve those people and to make a difference in their lives.”
“This trip has challenged me to live more boldly at home anticipating that God will provide even if I don’t have all the answers.”
“One thing that really stuck out to me is how fallible medicine is. Our hope is not in bottles of pills that we bring in our luggage, it’s in our good and powerful Savior, Jesus… As a health care provider, this trip has helped me to slow down and really see the patient sitting in front of me as a person. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget to pause long enough to notice the God-given image bearer in front of you. This has helped to reorient me to the heart behind why I chose medicine in the first place.
“This trip has given me more of a vision for the “why” of nursing and a passion to continue in this field and learn and grow more. This trip was so encouraging in the sense of purpose it provides, as well as the incredible community. I so valued having teammates from so many occupations and backgrounds and especially different ages. There was so much joy and wisdom to be shared because of our differences.”

Today was another wonderful day here in Guatemala. I feel so blessed to have gotten to know this great team and all the Guatemalan people. My favorite memory so far has been playing with toddlers and the excitement they have with my stethoscope.

From Antigua with love

Today we had the opportunity to explore the city of Antigua.  It is a beautiful city that has such a vibrant culture with lots of colors, sights and smells.  We went to a cathedral and the guide had such an obvious love for his people and his country.  He thanked us for the work we

Hope for the Day

Today was day 2 of our medical clinic. It was slower and far less stressful then day one, or at least from where I was standing. My “official” position is Dental Children’s Ministry, and with no dental training it’s really a whole new world.
