April 2012: ,
A team of 14 people from South Mountain Community Church traveled to Northern Haiti to visit the communities of Terrier Rouge, Danda, and Phaeton. The team worked with the children in the communities in VBS style programs and learned about how they can get involved in Northern Haiti.
Community projects:
Additional items accomplished:
- 125 students taught in Phaeton
- 50 students taught in Ouvray
- 20 children taught from orphan home in Terrier Rouge
- 50 children in Ouvray received lunches that they wouldn't have otherwise gotten for three days while the team was there
- Multiple snacks handed out throughout the week
- 20 children from orphan home received 2 pairs of new shoes
- Children and workers at the orphan home received medical care from a team member
- Because of this trip all 20 children in the orphan home are sponsored for school and home expenses (which includes food). This team actively sponsored the remaining 5 children who didn't have sponsors before the trip.
- One local translator's school fees have been paid for (for this quarter)
- Paint was provided for all the classrooms on the 2nd story of the church secondary school, which was then painted with local labor (providing work). The light color will allow students to see better longer into the day, as the school is without electricity.
- Funds were provided for the 2nd story of the guest house to be made useable for teams, and it is now almost finished (a 2nd bathroom and flooring remain)
