Since the devastating earthquake in January 2010, the need for emergency medical care has been replaced by a need for ongoing public healthcare. Providing a medical clinic facility will enable our partners at Haiti ARISE Ministries (HAM) to demonstrate love and compassion for the people in Grand Goave.
Our plan is to provide a new medical clinic with ongoing nursing care in the community. The clinic will be constructed using innovative construction techniques that will make the building functional and safe from any future natural disasters. The clinic will help to address health issues in the community such as: malnutrition, hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, neonatal care, among other things. It will also provide a workspace for medical teams that volunteer, with the expectation that more teams will be using the facility in the future. This will free up the use of other buildings on site which have been, in past, used by teams and will further allow the opportunity to introduce other forms of medical care, such as optometry and dental.
The on-site medical facility started construction in Oct 2010 with a newly designed system for Haiti, pre-fabricated concrete panels. This system has provided hands-on training for the local Haitian labor force. The facility includes four exam rooms, four operation rooms, pharmacy, laboratory, staff office, reception area, bathrooms and public showers.
