Today, we had one last opportunity to see another aspect of this ministry in action. The building was bustling as the weekly homeschool co-op arrived this morning, filling the classrooms with families, children, and teachers. Meanwhile, the kitchen had been busy since early morning, as the ladies prepared fresh baking and homemade juices to sell to the public and the homeschool families. Even Brantley was weighing out 15 grams of chocolate chip cookie dough and rolling balls for the trays in queu for baking.
Corina has developed a wonderful program that teaches far more than cooking. The ladies learn valuable life skills, personal responsibility, budgeting, inventory management, and customer service. They place ingredient orders, track the supplies they use, and manage the sales of their products. A portion of every sale is intentionally set aside throughout the year toward a larger goal—often purchasing something significant like a new oven—helping them learn the importance of planning, saving, and working toward the future.
With our final free hour, we visited the local zoo and thoroughly enjoyed seeing Bolivia's incredible wildlife, especially the beautiful variety of birds.
