After over 24 hours of travel, we arrived safely in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Today being our first day, we had the privilege of meeting Marco & Corina from El Jordán, a Christ-centred ministry that serves vulnerable families seeking to leave life on the streets behind. Through the faithful proclamation of the gospel, Bible studies, practical care, tutoring, and vocational training, they help people break free from cycles of poverty, addiction, and brokenness while equipping them with the skills and hope needed for a new future in Christ.
We spent the afternoon at their beautiful 10-acre property, which they have faithfully developed over the past 18 years. It serves as a place of refreshment and ministry for the vulnerable people they work with, as well as for church groups, women's groups with young children, and their own family. Today's outing was for 18 young men between the ages of 12 - 18.
For many of the boys, the hamburgers were a special treat, as the rising cost of meat has made it unaffordable for many families over the past year. The afternoon was filled with swimming, soccer, games of keep-away, singing together, and a meaningful time of discussion and answering questions on a variety of topics (like careers, trades and education options, value of marriage, not being distracted by worldly pleasures that take away from a God honouring life, etc.) It was a joy to see these young men simply enjoying being kids in a safe environment while hearing about the hope that is found in Jesus Christ. We are grateful to begin our time here alongside faithful servants who are making such an eternal impact in their community.
