EVE eases family violence

The staff at Peace Portal Uganda began to see that the Ending Violence Education (EVE) teams were progressing very unevenly, so they decided to reset the teams. There are now three teams with exceptional leaders who are moving their teams ahead in finding ways to reduce violence in their community and generate income to provide for their families and change their communities. Members from the other three groups have been incorporated into the remaining three groups, and all three groups are now thriving.

After the recent visit of the Canadian EVE team, a new Ugandan branch was started on Seesee Island. Pastor Michael recently met with this fledgling EVE group. He reports that they are doing a good job in the community.

They go out and about and when they hear of families fighting, they put on their t-shirts and visit the home. People on the streets have been reading the t-shirts, commenting on them and recommending families to the groups for help. The home visits allow them to discover the source of the disagreement and help the family find better ways to handle their conflicts. The EVE group provides support and accountability and spreads the message of non-violence in a community that has experienced so much gender-based violence.
