The morning of our first full day in Juan Thomas at Fudesa came with a very high percentage of humidity. Even the locals thought it was very hot and wet. The showers throughout the day did break it up and it always smells just as good as home afterwards. In the morning, after a tour of the village from Jonathan, our local tour guide and translator, we split into 3 different groups. One group went to the elementery school and joined one of the English teachers and her class, they asked alot of questions. The second group cleaned rubble out of the teachers compound, finding many centipedes along the way, and the third group put together new school desks for the elementery with geckos as friends. At noon, Kelly and Emma went to the highschool and taught English in the grade 11 and 12 classrooms and lunch was served, rice, friend plantain and slaw. After lunch we played lots of volleyball with the kids, finished the desks, put in a new post by the local convenience store (where we scored some cold treats) and had supper. There has been plenty of new foods which has been fun and everyone loved trying the mashed plantain. Right after supper, we went to the weekly Wednesday evening church prayer service. The local missionary, who grew up in the Congo, gave a short service and his grandson translated it into English for us to follow along with. We also did prayer groups with some of the locals. Finally we ended the day with sharing some highs and lows as a group and finished cutting out crafts for Vacation Bible School tomorrow, which was several of the guys (and Carena's) low:) Lots of pictures included today and see you all tomorrow!
