At the clinic:The day started with a discussion about the word “resilience” and oh boy did this word bring out such a rich conversation. The team split up again today, some a center and myself and Barb were picked up by Nurse C with our translator and we headed out to help at the medical clinic. When we arrived we unloaded the car of medical supplies and Nurse C opened up the clinic and gave us a tour. Nurse C explained we would be helping with checking blood pressures and blood glucose of adults and checking the height and weight of the children plus completing nutrition assessments with the children. Our translator M would assist Barb and I. Another staff member H helped make appointments, organized the charts as the doctor would be at the clinic for the afternoon. Nurse C would be helping in the pharmacy for the day. It was time to open the clinic and the people came and it was busy all through out the day! Barb and I became proficient at checking B/P and BS, taking the height and weight of the children. We saw many of the women from the first EVE program sessions from Monday and Tuesday. It is amazing how quickly connections happen and how happy we were to see each other again. Next Barb and I started the nutrition assessments with mothers and their children. Nurse C gave us an outline to follow. Translator M worked with us as we asked the questions regarding nutrition. The day went by so quickly and we took a quick break at 3pm for lunch which Staff H family made for it was so good and hit the spot! Barb and I finished the last nutrition assessment and then it was time to close the clinic and put everything away and we headed back to meet the other team members. On the way back we picked up a delicious meal of biryanis make by Nurse C’s friend. The team enjoyed this wonderful meal together and we shared how our day went. It was a long but fulling day and I am thankful to have had such a rewarding and rich day with Barb. I can’t express my gratitude enough for this special day at the medical clinic with such amazing people! Jackie
Heading
Wow, Day 4 already! The Field Team have done such a great job that I am feeling right at home already! We started our day with a delicious breakfast and a robust discussion on resilience.Jackie and Barbara spent the day at one of the medical clinics with “C”, the Canadian Nurse. The remaining team members were driven to one of the drop in centres that we hadn’t visited yet. We had the opportunity to share our program with 11 strong, wise, and intelligent young women ranging in age from 17-30. It was so amazing how they opened up and shared their stories with us. They had some really great ideas and strong opinions. Such a moving experience. We enjoyed a delicious lunch made for us by the staff at the centre. All of the food so far has been absolutely scrumptious! I am going to need to get some recipes to bring home and try.Next we boarded our van with our trusty driver “T” and he delivered us safely to another drop in centre. Again, we were so fortunate to meet with an amazing, wise, intelligent group of women. This time the age range was 20-50. They were also very forthcoming in sharing their stories with us and had some very strong ideas and opinions. A very inspiring day. This trip has been so amazing so far. I feel so blessed to be a part of such an amazing group of women…from the EVE team members, staff at the drop in centres, women attending the group sessions, and the field team. This trip will stay in my heart for many many years.-Sara
