Phil Routly

Canadian Partner Consultant

Phil Routly serves as Canadian Partner Consultant with Hungry For Life, guiding Canadian churches and groups who want to engage in international relief and development through local, appropriate partnerships. He coaches and equips their leaders, trains and prepares teams for cross-cultural trips, and helps them build long-term relationships with partner communities.

Phil came to HFL after decades of ministry and leadership. He served as a pastor and officer with The Salvation Army, led congregations as a senior pastor and transitional pastor, ministered as a prison chaplain, and walked alongside churches and ministry teams as a leadership coach. He holds a Master of Arts in Christian Studies, is a Maxwell Leadership Certified Team Member, and wrote From Success to Significance (2023). Through it all he has watched healthy leaders change the people around them, and he is eager to bring that coaching heart to Canadian groups stepping into global partnerships.

I have spent my life helping leaders grow, and I have seen that when a leader is strengthened, a whole community is changed. I am joining Hungry For Life to help Canadian groups serve well and build lasting partnerships with leaders throughout the world.

Phil lives in Chilliwack, BC, with his wife, Elsie. They have three children, eleven grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way. He is a longtime member of Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, where he served as an elder, and he is on the core team that recently planted Northview Chilliwack. He enjoys sports and music, though these days he is more fan than player, and he is always up for a good conversation over coffee.
