Day 10

Don’t cry because its over smile because it happened

Our morning started with an amazing breakfast with S and G. In an authentic replica of a traditional home in this part of the country. The food was served in small pewter bowls . Our table had a combination of sweet and savoury dishes and R ordered breakfast for 6 which fed 11 of us with lots of food left over. Food is eaten by using the traditional bread instead of cutlery to move it from bowl to mouth. An art to master.

We then proceeded to D for our final celebration session of our time together. A brief review and inspiring words by Debbie led to each of us sharing something we had learned from these courageous women. We were all so aware of the common bond that we share but also for me the deep well of inner beauty that allows them, in the face of so much trauma, to also share love, care, and joy with each other and us.

We had cake expertly cut by R (I learned how to cut for many). We all made strings of beads to be hung around the room as a reminder of our time together. And we added petals of hope to the tree the boys and girls had started on Sunday and many, many, many, photos. A bag of small treasures was their parting gift and ours was hugs from each and everyone of the ladies and immense gratitude for our time together.

I am so aware that God’s grace will continue to be present here long after we leave in the work of our amazing partners and our prayers for all who we met and now hold close to our hearts.
