Day 12
The wind was creating mini tornados today as we drove for the final time between the women’s centres. I think those little tornados mirror the team’s feelings as we say farewell to so many courageous people who have captured our hearts.
We had an early start so we could spend some time at the church with Pastor S. This gentle and wise man spoke of his love for the people he ministers, regardless of their beliefs. He has said on many occasions that there is so much need, yet so little time. He is tired but does not rest.
At the women’s centres we celebrated our last day together. We laughed, danced, told stories and shared cake and soda. The gifts generously donated by so many of our friends became 75 gift bags that delighted the women we have grown to care for. Some spoke of their dreams and we encouraged them not to give up even though they believe the world has forgotten them. We promised to share their stories, so be prepared to listen.
In each centre, we did bead strings that will be hung on their wall as a reminder of our visit and Gillian even found time for a final macrame lesson with a young girl who wants to sell hangers to help support her family.
Tonight was our final dinner with some of the local team. Tomorrow we will move to a hotel close to airport and on Saturday we start our journey home.
We are so grateful for the time we had here and all the lessons we learned.
Debbie
