Today was a full and meaningful day at the Christian School in Juan Tomás. The boys rolled up their sleeves—quite literally—and tackled a big project: pouring and finishing a brand-new sidewalk on the school grounds. But it wasn’t just about the finished product. They shoveled sand, mixed the concrete by hand, and hauled countless wheelbarrow loads over to the forms. It was hot, sweaty, and tiring—but deeply rewarding to see it all come together.
While the concrete was being poured, the girls led Vacation Bible School sessions for Grades 2, 4, and 8. With Grade 4, we dove into Galatians 5 and had a great discussion about the fruits of the Spirit—how God’s Spirit grows love, joy, peace, patience, and more in our lives. With Grade 2, we shared the story of Daniel in the lion’s den and talked about trusting God even in scary situations. Grade 8 also joined us to reflect on the fruits of the Spirit, and we had a lot of fun decorating tote bags with symbols representing each "fruit." It was a mix of creativity, conversation, and connection.
Our day didn’t end there. Some of our team jumped into English classes, while others were part of distributing feminine hygiene kits—an act of love and dignity that was met with sincere appreciation.
And of course, there was still time to play. We joined the students for games of volleyball, skipping rope, and soccer. Laughter echoed through the schoolyard as we reconnected with many of the same children from previous days. The joy of play helped break down language barriers and build deeper friendships.
To close out the evening, our leader Will led devotions and shared a powerful story. It reminded us of the reality of spiritual warfare—how strong Satan can seem at times—but also how much greater and mightier our God is. It was a stirring end to a day filled with faith, fellowship, and service.
