Our final day in Juan Tomás was packed with work and filled with fun. We woke up early to brilliant blue skies and the sound of birds chirping. A strong cup of rich Dominican coffee hit the spot, and the pancakes for breakfast were delicious.
The team got right to work—while the guys tackled some demolition projects, the girls spent the morning teaching in various classrooms. Everyone worked hard and showed growing adaptability, quickly pivoting and regrouping when unexpected challenges arose.
After a tasty lunch of lasagna, the guys finished up their projects and thoroughly cleaned the work areas. Pastor Richard was very impressed by both the quality of the work and the cleanup afterward. Meanwhile, the girls organized the donated items.
Later in the afternoon, we took a field trip to the Colonial Zone. Built in the 1500s, it was fascinating to explore and learn about its rich history. The team enjoyed some pizza and a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea.
We returned late, as a few of the girls took some extra time to barter for local paintings. Back at the compound, everyone made a beeline for the internet to catch the end of the Leafs game, crowded around a laptop.
It was a good day.
