A joyful day

“Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come before him with joyful songs.” (Psalm 100:1-2)

After a needed night’s rest, we enjoyed breakfast on the roof of the Oasis. Mango juice and cut up mangos are a delicious start to almost every day here.

Yapak Community church meets on site and church here is such a joy! The upper room we meet in is open to the breeze. The congregation is made up of about 20 adults and close to 70 children and teens. No-one comes to church in their ripped jeans or wearing grumpy face. The decibels are there all right, but they don’t come from the drum kit or the electric guitar. Though the youthful worship team is playing these instruments, the sound comes almost entirely from everyone in the room lifting their voices in songs of praise. Pastor Dustin preached on Jonah and our response to God's call.

A number of our group headed over to Sunday School, where Dorie and Kim gave the Bible lesson on the Creation story to almost 50 kids. The morning ended with lego kits each depicting a creature. The instructions were a bit tricky, so older kids helped the younger and us adults, we tried to help too, so there was bits of lego everywhere and the paper instructions fluttering around in the breeze. Joyful chaos!

During the afternoon Dorie did training for the young Sunday School teachers on the wordless book. Her joy and enthusiasm in teaching these kids to present the gospel was contagious.

The day was topped off with a trip to the beach where we watched the sunset and enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner.
