Heading
This is day seven at Obispo Kellogg, it has gone by surprisingly fast. We arrived in the wee hours of the morning last Thursday and at breakfast Carlos allowed us to have a relaxing start of our day. He said " we will start slowly and end the week with a crescendo".
I think it proved to be an accurate statement.
We started out after breakfast with quick trip to a large department store to gather hygiene items for 15 seniors who live in Vasca. There were about 10 items in a plastic wash basin including soap, razor, laundry soap, skin lotion and more. When we arrived at the community center most of the seniors were already there. We took turns introducing ourselves and when we told what Jesus had done in our lives they would give a loud and boisterous,' Amen'. Some of them, like Lorne, were well into their 80s. It was a special blessing to have Lorne share his testimony and for him to bless them with gospel tracts.
This group meets every week for bible study, worship, games, visiting and a meal, when a team is in town they get the additional benefit of the hygiene pack. They expressed their gratitude and thankfulness that we would come from so far to share the love of Jesus with them.
In the construction department I was able to use a hammer drill to prepare the wall of the bathroom building for David to put rebar and pour concrete for the top of the water pump shelter. They didn't have the rebar yet.
Lorne performed his trademark handstand for the Vasca team and some of the rest of the team got to sample the sticky sweetness of sugarcane.
The highlight of the day was bittersweet as we gathered around Pastor David and Ana, Daniel, who runs the Crecer program and was our translator, and Freddie who also did some translating for us. We shared our deep thankfulness to the Lord for what he is doing in Vasca through them and had a wonderful time of prayer together. They are so grateful for every team that God calls to come and minister along side of them.
As brothers and sisters in Christ we don't say goodbye, we say, see you later.
Hasta pronto.
