Seje Glory Centre Academy Comprehensive School provides K–Grade 9 education to many students in the region who come from some of the poorest families. For these students, the dream of completing their education would be unattainable without this program. There are currently 200 students attending. These are 200 young, under-resourced children whose lives and futures are being changed through education.

Seje GCA has consistently ranked in the top five of the 50+ schools in the region, and the teachers and students are proud to be part of this loving, caring Christian program.

The school has a feeding program that provides students with a nutritious breakfast and lunch during the school week. For many students, this is their only reliable source of food.

The entire Glory Centre Ministry relies completely on God to meet their needs. As they continue to move forward, they are committed to stewarding their gifts well and sharing the love and joy of the Lord with their students.

One of the greatest long term health concerns in the Seje community is the lack of treated drinking water. Community members suffer unnecessarily from waterborne illnesses such as dysentery, parasitic infections, typhoid, and cholera. Efforts had been made to drill boreholes in the community, but they were mostly unsuccessful, and it became clear that a larger vision was needed.

In 2008, Christ Glory Centre Ministries partnered with Community Bible Church and Water Mission International to begin a project that would pump water from the Yala River through a purification system, up to a holding tank, and into three strategic water point locations at Seje Glory Centre Primary, Glory Centre Seje Church, and His Blessings School.

A supplemental booster pump and another water point in Mugungu were added in 2013.

In 2015, two new water points were added in the Bar Olengo community. A total of 7 km of trenches were hand-dug by members of the community, bringing the water to six points. Solar power keeps the pumps running and the tanks full.

In 2019, the system was revamped, and the changes increased the distribution capacity from 10,000 to 30,000 cubic metres a day. When the system is running at full capacity, it now serves as many as 2,000 families (an estimated 12,000 people) in the region.

The system has faced a number of challenges, but it continues to provide clean water and better health throughout the community.

The Arise and Shine Early Childhood Development (ECD) program was started by a compassionate woman named Beatrice who, like many of our partners, saw a need and wanted to do something to address it. After retiring from her position as a teacher, she noticed that children in her community were not attending ECD programs to prepare them for school, so she started a program in her home for children from less fortunate families.

Shortly after that, Beatrice and her husband, Alex, decided to sell Beatrice’s pension and use the funds to build a classroom for the children. They took in 45 children between the ages of 2 and 6, almost all of whom came from very under-resourced homes.

Fast forward to today, and Arise and Shine continues to provide an excellent preschool education to more than 60 students every year. Funding provides salaries for teachers as well as a feeding program that provides breakfast and lunch for the students, possibly the only meals they will receive during the day.

Students who graduate from this program will still need support to get into public school, but they have been given a solid foundation to build on.

Yogo Glory Centre Academy Comprehensive School provides an excellent Christian education from Baby Class through Grade 9. The school consistently ranks first among the 50+ schools in the area and in the top five in the region for educational results. Many of the nearly 300 students who attend Yogo GCA come from some of the most under-resourced families in the area and cannot afford school fees at other schools.

The answer was to start a school farm where the parents and guardians of these students could volunteer their time to help raise crops that would help feed the children and be sold to provide funds to help cover the operating costs of the school. The program gives dignity to parents, allowing them to contribute to their child’s education, and promotes a sense of pride and respect in the eyes of their children.

The school has benefited from the generosity of donors who have provided funding for the expansion of classrooms and office spaces, sanitary systems, kitchens, boarding spaces, and more.

Both the farm and the school are in the hands of our loving God. The students and staff are thankful for this opportunity to change futures and help set these young people free from the grip of poverty.

In 2014, a team from Canada visited Kakamega, Kenya, where they met some beautiful women in need of support, and Voice of Hope was born.

Fast forward to today, and Voice of Hope Kenya is a thriving project, with a core team of four staff members and many community workers serving more than 100 women and families across Kakamega and Siaya counties. The project provides stability, builds resilience, and strengthens communities through nutrition, education, medical care, and spiritual growth

Hungry For Life International facilitates direct engagement between churches and groups in Canada and communities around the world to address needless suffering. HFL has worked in Ukraine since 2004, helping groups engage in compassionate projects such as widow and orphan care, food programs, social assistance, and building projects. Hungry For Life's projects are primarily located in the eastern part of the country. Additionally, prior to the war, two HFL staff members, Chad and Mary Martz, were living in Zakarpattia, strategically close to the bordering countries of Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

2022 - 2024 Impact Summary

Phase 1: Initial Response (Completed)‍

Hungry For Life mobilized local partners in western Ukraine to support thousands of refugees from the east and Kyiv. They provided essential supplies like food, bedding, and hygiene products to over 2,000 people. Ten churches in the Zakarpattia region hosted 100 refugees each, while another in central Ukraine accommodated 200 daily. Most supplies were sourced from local stores to meet immediate needs.

Phase 2: First Month (Completed)‍

HFL secured a warehouse in western Ukraine for distribution and another in central Ukraine, establishing a nationwide supply network with 25 distribution points. Chad and Mary Martz coordinated local food purchases and collaborated with EU partners to receive aid shipments. Over 200 tonnes of food and essentials were distributed across 30 communities through 120 trips. At $7.50 USD per person per day, 80,000 people received meals.

Phase 3: Six Weeks into War (Completed)‍

HFL expanded its distribution network, sourcing 200 tonnes of potatoes and 227,000 jars of canned meat to provide meals for 575,000 people. Refugee shelters were maintained, and fuel was secured for transportation.

Phase 4: 2022 to 2025 (Completed)‍

HFL provided 6 million pounds of food, installed three water wells, and supported IDPs and families of fallen soldiers with essential aid. Infrastructure projects included installing heating systems in churches, delivering critical medical supplies to hospitals, and constructing housing for displaced families. Additionally, HFL funded renovations for a retirement home, built a youth center offering shelter and education, and provided essential appliances like refrigerators and stoves to de-occupied areas, ensuring long-term stability for affected communities.

Proposed Response 2026

As the war in Ukraine continues, the challenges have shifted beyond immediate survival needs. While food and shelter remain priorities, addressing trauma and emotional distress is crucial. Hungry For Life is committed to meeting these evolving needs through several key initiatives.

Hosting groups

A multi-use facility with 8 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms was completed in 2025 and offers respite for ministry workers and volunteers operating in conflict zones. We will also host four-day retreats for families of fallen, missing, and captured soldiers, providing a space for healing and connection. We plan to host 20 groups in 2026.

Food, hygiene, and emergency supplies

HFL will continue supplying ministry partners an average of 17 tones of food monthly aiding IDPs and those in de-occupied or conflict zones. Hygiene and seasonal supplies will be provided to those who lost belongings during occupation.

Volunteer chaplains travel once a month to provide spiritual and emotional support to front-line workers and medical staff located in stabilization centers.

The Kyamaganda Community Development Organization (KCDO) exists as an advocate for young people to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty, enabling them to become responsible, fulfilled Christians and adult citizens. One of the ways they can help reduce economic, social and physical poverty is through the Maize Mill. When community members bring the maize they have grown to the mill they are able to quickly increase the worth of their maize by creating a more usable product. This helps motivate community members to put effort into their farms and simultaneously produces income that KCDO can use to put toward future projects.

While the major focus of the ministry of Peace Portal Uganda (PPU) is two schools and two churches, the staff and volunteers take on many other ministries: medical clinics, community care for elderly and disabled, visits to remand centres to encourage young people caught up in the legal system, aiding groups of women and men that are focused on improving their lives and the wellbeing of the community, supporting a maize mill and a piggery project to provide income, and most recently starting a vocational school for young women and men who are out of school and in need of a trade.

Beautician training is provided for women who are from low income families. These women are often not allowed to work outside their homes, but beauty parlors can be set up in homes; therefore, they can be a great source of income for these women.

This training is taught in two phases. Phase 1 includes threading, waxing, facials, manicures/pedicures, henna, and makeup. Phase 2 is all about haircutting, straightening, curling and hair spa treatments.

Apart from the skills training the women also learn how to run a business and live a meaningful life that will allow them to be a blessing to others. Once the program is completed and participants have demonstrated personal investment and proficiency they are provided with supplies and equipment to give them a jump start on their new business.
