Today we all awoke around 5AM to sweat stained sheets. The night was filled with power outages leading to the fans and window Ac units failing us, but after a motivational prayer from Marco on the bus, the team was blessed with lovely cool, cloudy weather for the whole morning. After a quick tour around the facilities, we got to work. Part of the crew got straight to work and constructed a shade-cloth greenhouse that will be used to tomatoes and other crops. The rest, (Roy the boy needed some recognizition as he reminded us throughout the day) rebuilt a number of irrigation risers for new drip irrigation zones, as well as making good progress on header pipes for the drip lines. While the guys were sweating blood and tears for one of the most efficient irrigation systems known to mankind, the ladies were busy blowing bubbles with the kids. After a hearty lunch of corn paste called Nsima, soy and cabbage (eaten with bare hands, quite tasty), we spent a few hours in the afternoon heat interviewing many of the children, and taking pictures to give sponsorship updates. Marcel was a classic ‘dad photographer’ taking extreme closeup pictures, in all seriousness, a very neat experience. After this we got back on the bus, got back to our compound to some nice cold coco colas.
