Today was a day full of joy, laughter, and meaningful connections as we met many of our Guatemalan young friends for Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) in both San Raymundo and Chivoc.
The morning began under gray skies and some rain, and we wondered if the weather might be an issue for the day’s plans. But soon enough, our prayers were answered. The rain stopped, and we were ready for a day of games, songs, and smiles with the children.
VBS in San Raymundo
Our first stop was to meet children from Jesus Viene School, where about 90 students, ranging from elementary to middle school, gathered for their final day of the 2025 school year. The children welcomed us with music and dance performances. Following a Bible story, we set up four activity stations: bracelets and temporary tattoos, soccer, disc golf, and mini hockey. Each group rotated through the stations, and it was beautiful to see kids of all ages playing together and having fun.
VBS in Chivoc
After a quick lunch and a short drive through the mountains, our team arrived in Chivoc for the afternoon session. Unlike San Raymundo, this event was open to the entire community, and we had no idea how many children would come. When we arrived, we were amazed to find nearly 200 kids already waiting for us! The space was smaller than we expected, but that didn’t stop the fun. We quickly adapted the same four stations, and despite the crowd, everything flowed smoothly. The children’s enthusiasm was extraordinary. Full of smiles and cheers, their eagerness to join every game reminded us why we came. At the end, we heard the question in Spanish: “¿Cuándo regresan?” (“When will you be back?”)
Our hearts were full. We packed up, tired but deeply grateful for the chance to serve, to laugh, to play, and to witness God’s joy reflected in so many young faces.
This evening, we reflect on Jesus’ words in Matthew 9:37-38: “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” May these moments renew in us a passion for the Great Commission and remind us that every smile, every game, every word of encouragement is a seed planted for His harvest to come.
