Today was a beautiful blend of faith, culture, and history. We started our morning attending a church service in Fudasa and right away we were welcomed with warmth and open hearts. It was meaningful to witness worship in a different language. Great thanks to Jonathan to assist with the translation.
After the service, Jonathan took us for a tour through the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, one of the oldest and most historic areas in the city. Cobblestone streets, colourful buildings, and stories around every corner. We learned about the deep history rooted here, from early settlements to monumental sites that shaped the country. One fun fact was that the city was supposed to be built on the over side of the ozoma river, but due to the ant infestation they had to build on the other side. Also, when the city was held hostage by Francis Drake they threw the cannons in the river in the 1500s. They found and took them out of the river in the early 1900s and reinstalled them on the original wall to protect the city.
