Be

Heading

It was wonderful to wake up this morning with the glow of the sunset from our hike last night still fresh in our minds. It was not without a good degree of trepidation that we greeted the day however. More concrete to pour, more hard packed dirt to chip away at as we continued our ditch digging. It is gruelling work beneath the relentless warmth of the sun. How amazing it is, then, that we started the day with devotions with the staff of the ranch centered on Psalm 46. We take heart in the comfort of knowing that God is our refuge and strength. We witness His dominion, His power over the earth, His strength which brings peace. And through it all He doesn’t call us, at first, to shout His name from the rooftops nor bang the drums and strike the lyre… He instead, exhorts us simply, to “Be still and know that [He] is God.” Take a breath and know who made you, chose you, loves you. Take a breath and know that He is above all. How beautiful is that?

Right now, the team is gathered together around the bonfire. One of our very favourite times of the day. We’ve shared little ditties, some stories both touching and funny, reflections from the day and many companionable silences. And as I think about the day here with the sound of laughter and the crackling of the fire, I feel so blessed to be reminded of the highlights of the day - the little hummingbird we tried to nurse back to health, working hard alongside one another, the time spent with some of the local youth on the back hills, and the epic queso-taco-ritto one of our youth polished off because he “finishes what he starts…”

Lord thank you for our time here.

Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know
Be still
