We arrived in the Dominican 🇩🇴
Yesterday evening we met our friend Carlos for dinner and learned about the country and the people.
The next day we went to Batey Vasca, a small village in the sugar cane fields. We meet the community, pastor David and his wife Ana, and the medical team. Later Joni, Danielle, and Michelle drove to a school with the Days for Girls team to teach the younger school girls about menstruation and handing out kits made in the community. While the ladies were off, Matt was assisting with the medical team, utilizing his Excel expertise to help with the medicine inventory!
Lunch was served to the entire community, we enjoyed assisting in serving.
After lunch we got a tour of the village, meeting the previous pastor and seeing the colmado opening by pastor David and Ana to support the community. We were surprised by meager living conditions and the community bathrooms, no showers or bathes. Today was a day being immersed in the community culture to learn the needs to the community.
